Featured Session | Amelia Rose Photography

Today, we are featuring a senior session from Amelia Rose Photography, located in Houston, TX. Here is what Amelia had to say about her session!

Please describe the session: “We started at my studio where I did her hair and make up. I wanted to go with warmer tones on her eyes and I changed the part in her hair. Changing the part in her hair was a bit of a game changer and I think really tied in the different styling aspects of the shoot. We then made our way to the playground with about 40 minutes left of sunlight so I knew I needed to be swift if I wanted to get these couple of looks in. I started with the Tommy Hilfiger look and absolutely fell in love with the blue on blue. It was awesome being able to get so much of the structure in the shot without losing her within it. Mekenna also brought along a rainbow top which radiates happiness and love.I was so happy we were able to get some shots with that as I am a huge proponent of love is love is love is love. We also added a pop of color for her lip which helped transform the look.”
”I really pushed myself with this shoot in terms of trying different angles and posing techniques. I was beyond happy and proud of the end results of this all encompassing shoot. It's pretty special when you are able to the styling, make up, photography and retouching for a session---it is a sense of artistry and completeness like no other.”

Tell us about the gear used: “Canon 1DX Mark II. Profoto B2 with their OCF Beauty Dish White.”

What inspired this session: “I took my two little boys to my old stomping grounds one day. We played oh so hard on all the new fun playground equipment at my old elementary school that my sister and I attended. The school is right across the street from the house I grew up in, but I hadn't been to the playground in quite some time. As the boys were running around--I couldn't help but think of how beautiful and more simple the times were then. Usually when I speak to the High School Seniors that I photograph---I can remember and sense the huge amount of pressure from all the decisions that come with Senior Year of High School which gave me the idea of "kickin it old school" at the playground with one of my fav seniors and just remembering more simple times. Which I know isn't some novel idea---I've seen several photographers shoot at the playground. But when you really get to thinking about the symbolism there---it's pretty inspiring. It's a beautiful reminder to enjoy the simple things in life.”

”I spotted this little Tommy Hilfiger number in Urban Outfitters (which is a huge blast from the past when you walk in---I felt like I needed some roll on body glitter and some pogs and the look really would have been complete lol) Immediately when I saw it---I knew where it needed to be photographed.”
